BASICS of FALL PROTECTION

  • Provides workers with the basic knowledge required to work safely in areas exposed to fall hazards.
  •   Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize fall hazards and identify and apply fall protection controls.
  • A review of legislative requirements will also be discussed as well as hands on review of equipment.

BASICS OF supervising
(Gold Seal Accredited - 4 credits)

Intended for crew-level construction supervisors — especially those who have never received any training in supervisory skills or in their health and safety responsibilities under Ontario law.

BOBCAT / SKIDSTEER

CHAINSAW SAFETY

Upon completion, participants will have a working knowledge of the requirements, guidelines, and procedures to operate and maintain chainsaws safely.

  • Chain and bar features

  • Personal protective equipment

  • Fueling and starting procedures

  • Handling and cutting techniques

CONFINED SPACE

Topics include:

  • Definition of confined space
  • Hazards related to confined spaces 
  • Types of dangerous atmospheres 
  • Legal requirements
  • Assessment and control options
  • Monitoring strategies
  • Entry permits and procedures

Upon completion, participants will be able to identify confined spaces and demonstrate knowledge of legislative requirements and general procedures for confined space entry.

Construction Workplace Safety Training Ltd. will issue a wallet card to successful participants.

 

ELEVATED WORK PLATFORM

  • Available as a classroom-based course or on site.

  • Scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other elevating work platforms — self-propelled or push-around — can present major hazards when they are not selected, used, inspected, or maintained properly.

  • This program covers different types of platforms and their applications

  • We will cover the types of hazards encountered on site and how to address each issue.

 NOTE: - This program does include a hands-on component.

- Prerequisites for the course are “Basics of Fall Protection”.


FORKLIFT

Topics include:

  • Basic hydraulics and pre-operational checks

  • Stability and tipping

  • Capacity and load charts

  • Safe operating and load handling procedures

  • Inspection, maintenance, and log books

 


HOISTING & RIGGING – GENERAL SAFETY TRAINING

Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate a general knowledge of principles relating to safe hoisting and rigging practices in the construction industry. 

:Topics include:

  • Hoisting and rigging hazards
  • Fibre rope, knots, and hitches
  • Hardware, wire rope, and slings
  • Rigging tools and devices
  • Hazard awareness in crane operations
  • Hand signals require 100% passing grade
  • 80% for knots
  • 80% for performance review

 

NATURAL GAS HEAT ROT IN CONSTRUCTION
ROT course by Enbridge

This course will enable a worker to hook up activate and disconnect a construction heater under 400,000 btu’s using natural gas. As per requirements of TSSA, CH-02ng.

Topics include:

  • Hazard recognition and evaluation

  • Legislative requirements and safe practices

  • The program includes hands-on training outdoors, consisting of connecting, lighting and disconnecting a torch or heater, and classroom performance reviews.

PROPANE HEAT ROT IN CONSTRUCTION

Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize and evaluate the hazards associated with propane. 

Topics include:

  • Hazard recognition and evaluation

  • Legislative requirements and safe practices

  • Connection, activation, and disconnection of propane equipment, including fork lift or scissor lift/boom under 400,000 btu’s.

  • The program includes hands-on training outdoors, consisting of connecting, lighting and disconnecting a torch or heater, and classroom performance reviews.

 

Red Cross 1 Day
    Emergency First Aid & CPR

The course covers skills needed to recognize, prevent and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for Adults, CPR Level A, and other topics such as choking, airway and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission.

About this course

  • 6.5–8-hour course with flexible scheduling options
  • 3-year certification (or as legislation dictates) in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
  • Includes CPR Level A (CPR information is enhanced to meet specific workplace needs)
  • Includes AED (Automated External Defibrillation) certification (where local legislation permits)
  • Conducted by a certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor

   Standard First Aid & CPR

The course covers a variety of topics from basic (such as cardiovascular and breathing emergencies, CPR Level A, prevention of disease transmission) to in-depth topics, such as sudden medical conditions and injuries to the head and spine.

ROUGH TERRAIN, EXTENDED REACH FORKLIFT

Topics include:

  • Safe operating procedures
  • Loading procedures for variable reach

STILTS SAFETY TRAINING

Topics include:

  • Maintenance procedures as required

  • Inspect all Components & identify any defective conditions

  • Demonstrate a warm up exercise

  • Set up tools/materials for safe, easy access

  • Properly fit & adjust stilts for safe use

  • Safely Mount

  • Walk

  • Perform typical work tasks

  • Safely dismount.

 NOTE: Prerequisites for the course are “Basics of Fall Protection

SWING STAGE SAFETY AWARENESS

This safety based program is for workers who use suspended access equipment, but do not rig or install it.

TRAFFIC CONTROL

Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate knowledge of vehicle traffic hazards, establish effective procedures, and identify control options.

  • Regulation review and compliance guidelines
  • Traffic control on public ways
  • Requirements for traffic control persons
  • Backing vehicle procedures
  • Vehicle/equipment blind spots
  • Jobsite planning
  • Use of “Temporary Conditions” “Book 7”. Ontario Traffic Manual
TRANSPORTATION OF DANGEROUS GOODS
  • The TDG Regulations require that every person in Canada who is involved in shipping, handling or transporting dangerous goods be trained and certified.
  • Employers are responsible for deciding who needs to be trained.
  • Construction Workplace Safety Ltd. can help by providing an up-to-date copy of the TDG Regulations and training materials that cover the basics of classification, documentation, packaging, safety marking and reporting.
  • Employers add their own site-specific examples to meet the regulatory requirements.
TRENCH SAFETY

This course will allow participants to locate and explain the sections of the construction regulation concerning trenching and shoring. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge of safe practices and procedures for trenching and shoring.

WHMIS

This program is a generic overview of WHMIS. (While reference to specific products used by workers is included in the course, employers must provide additional WHMIS training tailored to the specific materials workers may encounter.
